SMART.SPACE

by Jill Fehrenbacher

Have you ever dreamed about living in a super futuristic apartment with movable walls, foldable furniture and multifunction appliances? (I’m not the only one, am I?) If you have ? integrated design group AvroKO (of PUBLIC fame) has the answer to all your Jetsons fantasies. They are launching Smart.Space this weekend, an ambitious project which involves buying small Manhattan apartments and completely overhauling them ? transforming them into the coolest, most efficient, most-high tech apartments around. If you like modernist murphy beds and other folding furniture, this is the apartment for you. There is even a guest bedroom hidden inside a wall. Efficiency does come with a hefty price tag, though. The very small 2 BR apartments (both about 600 sq ft each) are priced at roughly $1,350 a square foot.

Smart.Space is debuting this weekend, and opening the west village apartments to the public for the first time, between 1 ? 3pm, Sat & Sun. Details can be found here.

We have a 974 square feet apartment in L.A. we’d like to do it up. Do you work here at all?

Hi - Love the Smart Space concept. I know of a new furniture design concept that would work well in these spaces. When the prototype is complete I’d like to send photos to this blog. How would I go about doing that?
Any help you can offer is appreciated.
