BAMBOOLICIOUS

by Jill Fehrenbacher, 08/02/05

Having people over and you don’t want to resort to tacky (and bad-for-the-earth) plastic plates and cups? Time to check out Bambu Veneerware. This disposable bamboo dinnerware is sturdier and more efficient than plastic dinnerware, and a hundred times more classy.

Unlike flimsy plastic and paper plates, Bambu Veneerware won’t buckle under hot, wet, or heavy foods. The 100% organically grown bamboo is highly renewable, with a rapid growth cycle of three to five years (most hardwoods have a 15-20 year growth cycle). The disposable bamboo dishes and utensils are meant to be used once (or twice) and biodegrade in four to six months after disposal.

A set of 9′ plates is only $7.50 from Amazon.com

If you happen to live in Seattle, you can get these at Uajimaya in the ID.

I ordered these, and they’re beautiful, but cooking.com shipped them in a box about 5 sizes too large and filled with styrofoam popcorn. My feeling is that it would be better to find them a t a local retailer:
