ARCHITECTS PLA.NET SOFT LIGHT
by Sarah Rich, 09/10/05
The Austrian architecture and design firm Architects Pla.net has developed this little wireless rechargeable light for the bathroom. The light is illuminated by hyperbright LED’s and resists water. Gerhard Abel, the designer, is one member of the Pla.net trio, which also includes Martina P?ringer and Paul Linsbauer. The three bring together backgrounds in architecture, landscape and industrial design, and have produced work in all three areas. The Soft Light (Weiches Licht) is featured in this years Pure Austrian Design (PAD) book, along with a stellar group of other emerging Austrian designers.

With the exception of the ‘resisting water’ detail, this style of product has been available in the UK for about a year by Mathmos http://www.mathmos.co.uk (original designers of lava-lamps). They’ve done various shapes with LEDs to generate colour/phase changing and rechargeble items; ‘tumbler’ (effectively a solid brick), ‘bubble’ (a soft touch silicone ball that is squeezed for on/off) and ‘aduki’ (a curved lamp that sits in your palm)
