SIMPLE DORM

Now that prefab is ultra-hip, I’ve come to expect new designs to have the modern, minimalist look that makes prefab so sexy. But outside of residential prefab, I’ve come across a lot of institutional projects that still don the cardboard boredom of their predecessors. So it was a pleasant surprise to discover SIMPLE, the new modular student housing line from Garrison Architects and Kullman Industries.
SIMPLE (an acronym for “Scalable Innovative Modularly Produced Living Environment”) offers a highly flexible design plan that includes singles, doubles, baths and optional kitchens, in four different residential configurations. The modules are fabricated at the Kullman Industries site in Lebanon, New Jersey, then transported by truck to their campus, where they are assembled in as little as ten days.
In addition to the “inherent” sustainability factor of off-site preproduction, the modules can be designed to include geothermal and photovoltaic systems, making them eligible to receive LEED status. SIMPLE Dorm has a highly detailed website where you can view specs and pricing.

“Highly detailed website”? Me thinks not. Simple line drawings. no detail. Looks like a first year, first semester pin-up..
