NEXT GENERATION WALLPAPER

by Sarah Rich, 01/11/06

Though there is certain kitsch appeal in moving into a house full of super-retro and vintage wallpapers, it doesn’t always work unless you really intend to play up the dated quality of the colors and patterns. Modern graphic designs have become ubiquitous on greeting cards, wrapping papers, and even the stretched tapestries that pepper Urban Outfitters’ home department, but they don’t turn up too often in high-quality wallpapers, and those that do generally aren’t available to average consumers.

Thanks to a great article in The NYTimes last week, we discovered Palace Papers, a 2-year-old paper and fabric design company started by Casey Gunschel.

Printed with water-based inks in the Massachusetts Berkshires, Palace’s goods can most easily be found all the way on the other coast at several showrooms in Los Angeles.
