FLUTTERING BUTTERFLY LAMP

by NK

Lauren Moriarty has developed a beautiful lamp based on the optical illusions that are created from layering multiple images in front of a light source. This pseudo-moir? effect comes to life when viewed from different angles, as the butterflies appear to flutter. These “Butterfly Effect” lamps make the most of a relatively simple idea, juxtaposing patterns to create movement. Released at London’s Design Week last year, these delightful lamps are part of Moriarty’s studies of illusion in domestic products.

Moriarty studied Industrial Design at Central Saint Martins in London and has developed textiles and products that are stimulating both visually and tactilely. Her work has been shown in numerous international exhibitions and publications.
