DALEX DESIGNS PAISLEY BENCH

by Sarah Rich, 03/30/06

Our friends at Core77 threw the hungry blogging pirhanas a tasty bite from Dalex Designs today — a little tool called a “toothbork” that is both a fork and a toothbrush. But I must say, I was in their camp, finding greater inspiration from Dalex’s Paisley Bench, the minimalist piece of furniture with secret embellishments on its underside.

By most accounts, the bench is nearly Ikean, with a flat-pack design and easy assembly and disassembly using a single allen wrench. It’s also eco-friendly, made from aluminum and FSC-certified Cherry. But look beneath the seat, and you see the markings that make it special – inspired by the lining of a sport-coat, the slats of the bench have blue flocking, adding color, texture and pattern to an otherwise flourish-free piece.
