NIXIE KID’S CLOTHING

by Sarah Rich, 04/30/06

Apparently, we're suckers for cute pictures of kids. It's rare for us to cover apparel, but when it's both sustainable and miniature, exceptions must be made. It all began with Speesees, whose photography could cause even the most anti-cute to make cooing sounds. And now comes UK-based Nixie Clothing, with a line of boho baby duds.

Says the Nixie website: “The clothing industry is one of the largest in the world. It is responsible for enormous pollution and environmental destruction. In the UK alone 900.000 tonnes of textiles are thrown into landfills each year.” Nixie does their part to solve this problem by making their clothes with vintage fabrics and recycled wool. Their handmade pieces combine “bohemian style with 70’s crafts aesthetics,” a fusion that produces tiny lace-cuffed leg warmers, sweaters with applique fairy wings, and dresses with wide paisley silk sleeves. I wouldn’t mind seeing this stuff scaled up to my size, but I have a feeling it’s hard to carry that look when you’re taller than 3 feet.

Those little chubby legs and the little wings! I don’t even like kids, but these pics are adorable.
