ECOSPACE GREEN GARDEN STUDIO

We’ve waxed lyrical about many a mini backyard prefab, (the FutureShed, the Modern Cabana, the MetroShed) but the EcoSpace Garden Studio really takes the cake. This stylish little prefab is green in almost every way: it is constructed from sustainably harvested cedar, employs eco-friendly materials throughout the structure and interior, and even comes outfitted with a pre-built green roof! Starting at £15,850, its reasonably priced as well - although bathrooms, kitchens and necessary amenities cost extra.

EcoSpace is based in London, so I imagine their buildings are only for sale in the UK, but here’s hoping this idea will be successful enough to jump the pond soon!

It is very nice, but it might use a bit more space dividers inside, and maybe some daylighting (coming from the roof) . Because turning light fixtures on during the day, as seen in last picture, might be a bit wasteful no ?

I’d rather get the FutureShed and transform it into a country cabin..

I like it. For the conventional, large. new house I would like to suggest that two or three rooms be insulated from the rest so they can be isolated in heating emergencies (or on retirement). Considering this option, even if people reject it, Would raise awareness.

Append 3 of these together as follows: 1 module at rear left, 1 at rear right. Elevate all 3 modules on ferro-concrete piers. Rear left & right modules overlap their joining to the main module to allow for passageways between themselves and main module. Rear module left has the bath and Kitchen, rear module right has the bedrom. Voila ! A very cost effective modern home ! (P.S. rear modules can be elevated, so as to allow a ‘2 step’ height differential between themselves and the main module. This would require that the main module be of greater height than the rear ones.) Also, bridge the space between left and right rear modules with an entry deck, that also has stairs leading up to the roofs. The roof areas can be used as another larger deck area. Don’t forget the railings ! (Another option would se decks fronting both rear modules)
