PREFAB FRIDAY: KipUp House

by Sarah Rich, 09/01/06

kipup

Geometry is the name of the game with 3xn’s KipUp House, for M2. The Danish design makes use of angular windows and steeply sloped rooflines, allowing daylight to pour in and reach most every inch of the interior. An open floorplan and detached central kitchen make this summerhouse a party host’s delight.

Apparently the houses are stick-built on site, but the plans are prefab/off-the-shelf. We are not totally sure if that really counts as prefab or not, but we just love this house’s design so much, we had to feature it.

I am a green prefab consultant looking to collaborate with builders, developers, and end user ownerbuilders to find affordable eco built housing solutions. Perhaps where small is beautiful. I am here in Marin and Sonoma counties in N california. Love your articles and want to find the means to bring together the parties for this mission for housing that is truly affordable, not just green large or mcmansions for liberal wealthier folks, though that wil be part of the client base we work with. For the past 5 years , I have promoted green building from a fleet of vintage green built interior airstream trailers . We were in tech tv and the sf chronicle April 15 2003, Laura thomas home and gardening section artilce on airstreams and my showcased ecoairstream trailer. I invite a look at our Ecoearthyacht outreach program underway. Sincerely, TIm BLair Earthsteward Design and Ecoearthyacht Outreach. 415 713 6876 i have a brochure to send as well on the ecoearthyacht outreach. TIm Blair

I believe this design is intemded for production by a world wide system of shotcreting on foam panels with wire mesh on both sides offered by the M2 Emmedue company of Italy. They have just built their first plant in the US in New Orleans. Go to ‘mdue.it’ or Google the company name.
