The Solaire’s green roof garden
This weekend was Open House New York - that special time of year when private architecture is opened up for public viewing. This year there was a focus on green design, which was perfect for all the Inhabitat-minded folks out there. Today I walked around a little bit and checked out The Solaire (the country’s first green residential tower), and The Bohen Foundation, an art gallery designed out of recycled shipping containers by Lot-ek.
The Solaire’s green roof is pretty gorgeous, even if the rest of the building is a little architecturally bland. BUT, bland architecture or not - these guys deserve props - this was the first green residential tower in the US, and successfully proved that people will pay a premium for green apartment buildings. And they recycle ALL their awater - including blackwater! That’s hardcore.
