Furthermore, I keep my 3-pound dog in there when I&#039;m not home and I hate leaving her in the dark for hours at a time.  I want one of these, like, YESTERDAY! In Australia it is a legal requirement to have battery backed (or battery operated) smoke alarms for all homes, and it is strongly recommended that batteries are replaced every year.
