PREFAB FRIDAY: Jennifer Siegal’s ShowHouse

by Emily Pilloton

OMD Jennifer Siegal Showhouse 1

Jennifer Siegal has received much acclaim for her prefab structures that combine a clean modern aesthetic with seamlessly integrated environmentally-friendly materials and technologies. Now, the design details of her pioneering prefab concepts can be seen first hand at the Showhouse, completed in August and located in Venice, California. The Showhouse serves as a showroom and prototypical “model home” for her Office of Mobile Design, which offers prefab homes at reasonable prices, starting at about $240 per square foot.

More than just green and modern, the Showhouse demonstrates Siegal’s commitment to merging responsible design with new technologies and luxurious details. Her prefab designs utilize green technologies such as tankless water heaters, radiant heat ceiling panels, and translucent polycarbonate sheets, balanced with high-end amenities like the iPort integrated sound system, Boffi kitchens, and Duravit bathrooms. The Showhouse offers a space to see the functionality of these elements first hand, as well as Siegal’s application of materials such as Kirei board, bamboo, and coconut palm flooring.

Jennifer Siegal is one of the speakers at the upcoming Dwell on Design conference, which we wil be attending and covering in Palm Springs from December 1-3. We can’t wait to hear more about her current and upcoming projects.

I was wondering if I could stack two units for a narrow in an urban setting. I was invisioning a single story-first floor and a one or two unit. Thanks for any information.

[…] We love the work of Jennifer Siegal’s Office of Mobile Design, and at this past weekend’s Dwell On Design conference in Palm Springs, I had the opportunity to talk to her in person about green architecture and her prefab designs. The recent completion of her ShowHouse serves as a great example of efficiently and effectively executed prefab construction combined with a seamless integration of green materials and technologies.
