Is ecoresin available in South Africa or is it a purely American product? Who could I contact to buy various sheets?

I am a South African designer and would like to get hold of ecoresin to use in the making of a light. This is one is unique and very artistic. I would love to buy one and "advertise" the 'cause" because I know people are going to ask where I got it and then I can share the reason behind it.

I really like the bracelet because they are so different than the other “cause” bracelets that I have lying in my drawers. ECO-resin is a great marketing term but what does it mean? I am pretty sure that the resin used in 3form material is the same as in Lumicor and in Veritas materials and is the same "resin" Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol Comonomer which is licensed by Eastman Chemical. I am also fairly certain that hardly (if any) of the so-called recycled eco-resin is from post consumer material. All you have to do is ask them. It is also important to consider the recyclability of a material which has embedded fabrics and materials in it. Almost zero is the answer. If you grind it up to re-melt it then you contaminate the plastic batch and you have random pieces of fabric and materials in it. Is it possible to avoid this - Yes. But does 3form do this? I don't know, but it would be interesting to ask. In general, I have found that most companies using the word ECO in front of anything that they sell are like most - just trying to sell some material to you. I will have to give 3form credit though, they are trying and the HDPE material is in fact a good example of a recycled, low-toxicity polymer. How much of this material however do people buy? I would imagine that it is peanuts compared to the Eco-resin material which I consider to be quite misleading. The idea that they have of reclaiming material after its useful life is a nice one, but having worked in the architectural industry for a number of years now I find it unlikely that even a small percentage of the material ever makes its way back to the factory for reprocessing. Even if it did make it back - at what point do we consider the fuel and energy required to get it there? Best rule of thumb when specifying materials is ask questions - LOTS OF THEM - and don't be shy to ask for details and proof.

I hope that those of you working within the architectural and product design fields who might be specifying materials such as 3form’s are careful in qualifying what you consider to be “environmentally friendly” materials. I have been with the company for 3 years and it is an amazing company to work for. I spent the last year being the environmental taskforce leader and sustainability and social responsibility truly is at the core of the company. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me and I will do my best to get you an answer.

I am in the national sales office of 3form in Salt Lake City. Does anyone know how much the eco-resin is per square foot, for example, at 1/8" thickness, with embedded materials, for a residential project?

Have two bracelets.
