$250,000 OPEN ARCHITECTURE COMPETITION

by Emily Pilloton

Open Architecture Network, Architecture for Humanity, Cameron Sinclair, Humanitarian Design, Design Like You Give A Damn

The Open Architecture Network is off to a blazing start, and today, in coordination with tech company AMD, Architecture for Humanity announced their $250,000 OAN competition to design a sustainable technology facility and community center for the developing world. The competition officially launches later this year, and the selected design will be available through the Open Architecture Network for implementation and adaptation. The initial design should be site-specific and “incorporate a centralized building equipped with internet connectivity solutions designed to enable an entire community to access the transformative power of the Internet.” The competition supports AMD’s 50×15 Initiative, whose goal is to connect 50 percent of the world’s population to the Internet by 2015. To participate, you MUST be a member of the Open Architecture Network.
