FLOATING ELECTRO-MAGNETIC SKYSCRAPERS by Geotectura

by Evelyn Lee

Geotectura2

Ever imagined that a building could hover about the ground - floating in mid air? Architect Joseph Cory thinks the above scenario might be possible in the future, using electro-magnetism. In his Electro-Magnetic Skyscrapers project, the structures support each others through their electromagnetic fields.

“By using magnetic fields as a construction material there can be infinite vertical and horizontal expansions due to the final liberation from gravity.”

Using magnetic fields as a construction material, the skyscrapers would also integrate built-in energy systems from photovoltaic cells on the sides of the cube to wind turbines, air shafts forcing wind into energy, water conservation tanks, and more.

Through an interdisciplinary collaboration with designers and researchers, the Israeli architectural studio Geotectura takes innovative sustainable ideas beyond the everyday, encouraging even the greenest of us to really think outside the current sustainable box. Researcher and Architect Joseph (Yossi) Cory set up Geotectura to “explore new horizons” in sustainability, and from what we can surmise, is doing well to deliver on this promise.

Cory is currently working towards his PhD in the IIT, Isreal, and has teamed up with other sustainable conscious architects, artists and scientists to push the limits of sustainability though a variety of award-winning design competition projects. “Geotectura means merging land and architecture together with ecological values, cost effective technologies, psychological consideration and social context,” he says.

Splendid all over,
think of how you can put windpower on top of the cabin´s and waterpower from the ocean´s.
My deep respect for your Innovations, thak you very much.

Yosi,
Never a dull moment! your mind is constantly hovering with inovative ideas. It does look and mainly sound imaginary but who knows?
Keep on going that is the way!
lots of luck

The type of magnetic field necessary to levitate a building would throw off every magnetic navigation system on earth, including the natural ones used by migratory animals.

Magnetic Buildings? I guess you’ll need plastic keys.

Electro-Magnetic Skyscraper is only fictional prototype. The intention of this concept by Joseph Cory, Flavio Adriani and Genadi Agranovitch was only to make you think about the future… Do not try to built this at home ;)
so in this futuristic scenario controlled Electro Magnetic force (E.M.) will be a key element in the building industry. This controlled E.M. force will free humanity from the need to waste our planet resources by making the E.M. technology the ultimate sustainable method. E.M. Structures will be able to support each other simply by pure physical magnetism that can also direct electricity. By using magnetic fields as a construction material there can be Infinite vertical and horizontal expansions due to the final liberation from gravity. Tokyo was chosen to set the first example for the rest of the world in building a series of Electro-Magnetic Skyscrapers. Self sufficient energy cubes will provide the basic needs to the community. By using built-in energy resources in every E.M. Cube (such as photovoltaic cells on the sides of the cube, Wind turbines, air shafts forcing wind into energy, water conservation tanks etc.) the process will make this self-sufficient cubes an economical and ecological building units. The endless dimensionality and durability of the self spatial growing cubes is due to the magnetic force that can never run out of its power. The magnetic forces will replace the traditional way of moving with a new multi dimensional magnetic elevators that can run along side the E.M. Cubes accelerating/ decelerating through a magnetic gear.

Is this supposed to be the solution for when the ice-caps melt and coastal areas get flooded by the world’s oceans? And how appropriate that these images show robots and expanses of sea. Who is this for?

The magnificent idea of electro-magnetic skyscrapers would totally collapse in the incident of a electric storm as we are dealing with an non-isolated system that can be harmed and affected. So the gigantic electromagnetic circuit will be distracted and the skyscrapers will be enforced to swim. ;)
A wonderful utopic idea that still needs a harder taming of nature in order to be conceived as realisable… still, many thanks for inspiring us, mr Cory.

loved the isealism here ……. wouldnt work for sure, ….. one simple fact fact ……. the energy required would be enormous, and yet not not stable to make it viable ……. the only way i see it possible ….is that us all become ….. a miniaturised form when we need to dwell …… kind of zoom in …. n zoom out …. situation. the day we can do that …… we have a problem solved …….
