BKLYN DESIGNS: UHURU CUTOFFS TABLE

by Emily Pilloton

Uhuru, Cutoffs Table, scrap wood table, BKLYN Designs, HauteGreen, green furniture, sustainable furniture, brooklyn designers 2

As we’ve seen before with their Stoolen series, Uhuru is great at making scraps of leftover wood into clean-line, modern, and oh-so-green furniture. Their Cutoffs Table may look like your ordinary gorgeous coffee table, but is actually made from reclaimed yellow heart pine in its not second but THIRD lifecycle. The boards are salvaged from demolished buildings, used to make larger tables that Uhuru sells as part of their line, and the cutoffs from those tables make up this smaller table (and give it its appropriate moniker). Place it on a solid steel frame and you’ve got the perfect eco-friendly and ever-functional centerpiece for your tiny NYC apartment.

We checked out Uhuru work at this weekend’s BKLYN Designs, and can’t wait to see what they’re showing at next weekend’s HauteGREEN exhibition.

Gorgeous. This is the first piece I’ve seen in a long while that I actually will consider buying.

A single lengthwise square metal post, at floor level, connecting the two ends would have been better than two on the outside. Otherwise a cool design. The way it is now configured… people will stuff their toes. ouch !
