MIXKO ‘DELIGHT’ BUTTERFLY FELT LAMPS

by Tylene Levesque

Mixko’s “Delight” Lampshade, Wool Felt, Butterfly Silhouette

One of the most eye-catching designs we spotted at ICFF this year was Mixko’s 100% wool felt butterfly lamps called “Delight”. Inspired by nature, these truly delightful lamps are soft, playful, beautiful, and sustainable to boot due to their smart and efficient use of felt. When lit, the cut-out butterfly silhouettes cast playful shadows on the walls and ceiling.

“Delight” lampshades come in Sky Blue, Cream, Blossom Pink and Ruby Red, and must be used with energy efficient light bulbs - Max 20w.

these are gerat! at first i got worried about how heat would effect these, then i remembered that most people buying these are probably using compact flourescent or LED bulbs.

not to be off topic or anything….. where can i get that wallpaper?

Sweet. I wonder how easy they will be to clean….. and after a month or two of collecting dust, how they will look?

I was just yesterday thinking how design ideas are always shown immediately ‘off the show floor’. I was looking at a freshly planted up living wall, and all the plants still at odd angles..none had reoriented to light or gravity, and wondering why we were not shown the same after 6 months of growth and attrition?

Look around at the buildings from the early 1900’s versus those from fifty years later and up to the last decade. How many of our slick designs will weather as well as the earlier works? Just a Sunday morning rambling thought…..

really cool … looks awfully similar to Tord Boontje’s midsummers night lamp though (although his is made from laser cut plastica and not wool felt). Also, on the heat problem - CFLs and LEDs are not exceptions to heat problems. screw-in based CFLS have a habit of failing most thermal testing, especially in recessed lighting (but in this lamp they’d do great, plenty of air flow, thanks to the butterflies!) also, high powered LEDs that are meant for ambient lighting (like this kind of application in a lamp) usually require some sort of heat sink and are very expensive…and still run megahot. slightly off-subject, but I did want to let everyone know that incandescents aren’t the only ones who have heat issues.

@Eric: I bet you could vacuum these with a little attachment.
