I too live in Barcelona and I have been to Kubik regularly. I think it is absolutely fantastic and has finally given the Forum area of the city a bit more of a purpose. The music is loud but the nightclub itself it is located far from residential buildings and therefore doesn’t cause any problems in terms of noise pollution.

Can’t wait for next summer! Maybe different colours next time?

I live within walking distance of the area where Kubik is and having been there myself I can tell you that it´s a positive step. Instead of permanantly marring the oceanfront with some of the barbarities that are constructed here in Barcelona in the name of the tourist trade they have created something in the tradition of the “xiringuito” (a prefab summer bar) but with a little style and a twist. On this subject I tend to agree and disagree with Cas…ever since the costruction of that godawful monstrosity “Torre Agbar” (architect Jean Nouvell) was constructed, there has been somewhat of an obsession with lit installations here in Barcelona. Last I heard there were 5 submittals by buildings hoping to create color schemed facades which has the city in a bind because of light contamination and probable complaints by neighbors. However, the area where Kubik is located (Forùm/Diagonal Mar) is an area that was created for these types of things and does include some interesting yet esthetically horrid elements.

People will always “club” and therefore Kubik is definately a positively green step forward.

Love the idea of an outdoor night club in the summer combined with green design edge.

Seriously, night clubs use energy and make noise, I am glad that people can dance and have fun in an open air reclaimed structure. This is a case where people can include green living and choose green technology over conventional without giving up what they love. I’m all for it. Why should the beaches be just for those who want to walk and not to those who want to dance.

Reclaimed materials is fine, but since it is in the open air it will produce some light and more impotantly an awfull lot of noise for the people living nearby or those who would want to enjoy a normal Barcelona-night-beach-walk.
The general issue here: nice to use eco-friendly materials but maybe not if used for ‘bad’ things.
(Like using hydrogen is nice if used for riding your car, less nice if used to make bombs.)
