One the other hand...it's also true that in a given location, electric heat may be less efficient than other methods -- solar, gas, propane -- so the although the waste heat from incandescent bulbs is recycled, that heat is not necessarily produced in the most efficient manner.

Note than when CFLs are used indoors, and the outside temp is lower than the desired indoor temp, the energy savings of CFLs is reduced somewhat because the “waste” heat of incandescent bulbs is effectively recycled to heat the indoor space. I mean isn't kinda pointless to make a display that uses so energy when tring to promote a bulb that saves energy?.. sure it's catchy, and gets peoples attention. but using so much is what they're tring to change. right? & r they actually affordable?..& where?

Ironic, perfect word for it. CF bulbs have poor illumination qualities though, just like standard flourescent bulbs do. When full spectrum Ott-lite bulbs can be manufactured in the twist design of CF bulbs and then dimmed... THAT would be real progress. www.ott-lite.com

Dimmable is good. CF bulbs have poor illumination qualities though, just like standard flourescent bulbs do. Steiner-I absolutely agree with you. It is kind of like the joke, how many...you need to screw in a light bulb. You know the punch lines. They make dimmable floods for recessed light but they do not dim all the way (Phillips makes them.) I was wondering if this new light hummed too when they were fully dimmed.I also hope that they work with all the lighting systems out there too, and are affordable. anna www.green-talk.com

I saw this article on EcoGeek and came over here to see who makes them. How much energy did this display require? Couldn't ONE light bulb prove their point?

Steinar, that’s the first thing I thought too. I bought one about 4 years ago, in fact. Maybe this is the first time they're being offered for sale in the UK? The one I bought made lots of noise at less than 100% brightness and flickered a bit, so hopefully these models perform a little better!

This is not the first dimmable CF bulb. Surely they could have come up with an idea to launch a energy saving blub that does not require so much energy!?

Is it not ironic that they needed to have so many light blubs to prove thier point. Now all those people with dimmer switches have no excuse and governments have no excuse not to ban the old ones, although that looks pretty imminent in the EU.

Good, it’s about time a dimmable CF bulb was produced.
