We don’t normally talk much about TV shows here on Inhabitat, but this new documentary which airs tonight looks so compelling - we thought we’d call your attention to it. Tonight, at 9pm, CNN’s Planet in Peril kicks off - using first-hand investigative reporting to provide a better understanding of global warming and the current environmental crisis. Its great to see a news channel covering this issue so thoroughly and we applaud CNN for putting this together. Watch it tonight at 9pm if you can!

Tuesday, Oct. 23, and Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Bringing viewers the stories behind the statistics, CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta and Animal Planet host and wildlife biologist Jeff Corwin will focus on four main issues that threaten the planet and its inhabitants: climate change, deforestation, species loss and overpopulation. Planet in Peril, filmed across four continents and 13 countries, airs over two nights on CNN/U.S. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, and Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. (ET/PT) and globally on CNN International.

Sorry: I must confess extreme disappointment in Part 1. It should’ve been called “Personalities in Peril” for all the wasted video of Cooper, Corwin, et al stumbling through jungles, harassing wildlife and making worthless snap judgements about poaching and cancer in China. The high point when was Corwin got thrown by the elephant. If they would have moved out of the picture, we might’ve been able to see a little more of our emperiled world. Instead, we got more worthless star promotion. Plus, NONE OF IT IS NEWS. Except that Anderson Cooper has chemicals in his blood. To look at him, you’d swear he was a quart low.

CNN needs to watch some BBC & take notes.
Peril is weak…
Cooper in Geraldo-Vision.

And, I was surprised that the sponsor advertisers are a coal company, oil & gas, & BMW ???

Good idea to promote the show, “Planet in Peril,” but did you see the Colbert Report? He showed the advertisement CNN put in newspapers by the millions: it was a full color, glossy, fold-out, poster sized advertisement! I know you guys don’t do opinion pieces, but might be worth pointing out the irony. I’m a MFA grad student and currently writing a paper for an Architecture History class, called “It’s not easy being green,” about applying common sense to green design. Things like the wasteful impact of such an oversized advertisement for a show about planetary crisis is worth mentioning.
