Hey Guys!, we plucked the number from the Microjoule’s page, which says that “Le record du monde battu à 6 reprises dont le dernier à 3794km parcourus avec 1 litre d’essence.” Using my rather rudimentary skills of french, this translates to “Six-time world record holder, the last time achieving 3794km per 1 litre of fuel”

Being an architect, thus terrible at math, I say that:

3794 km/l * 0.62m/km/l (approx) = 2353mi/l * 3.792/gallon= 8923 mi/gallon (approx)
So obviously Wired got it from the Shell Eco Marathon results of last year, while we got their figures, so they are different… but, as stins says, much better than 25mpg

Thanks for keeping us honest though :)

Ummm…. someone has the maths wrong. One story says the “mileage” was 7150 miles/gallon, and another one says it was 3794 km/litre. These two values aren’t the same, though.

3794 km/l = 2357 mi/l = 8924 mi/gallon

7150 mi/gallon = 1889 mi/l = 3040 km/l

There seems to be a discontinuity in the maths (or in the reporting).
