CARPET SQR’D CHAIR made from upcycled design samples
by Bridgette Steffen
This chair brings a whole new meaning to sitting on the carpet. This design is another finalist in the 2008 Ample Sample competition. If you recall from our previous post, the Ample Sample Competition encourages designers to upcycle carpet samples into new uses. With 700,000 carpet samples being produced every year, it’s nice to see that some of them don’t end up in the landfill.

With enough time and patience, 60 carpet tiles, one sheet of wheat board, 7 threaded rods, and 14 washer and nuts, you can have a Carpet Sqr’d chair for your very own. Check out the cool DIY construction diagrams for this amazing reuse design. The other entries for 2008 are also pretty inspirational and are worth the look for new design ideas.
