PREFAB FRIDAY: Marmol Radziner’s Rincon 5

by Adrianne Jeffries, 08/15/08

Earlier this summer the brains at Marmol Radziner and Associantes revealed a sleek series of “accessory buildings” including their new Rincon 5 prefab. The clean-lined guest unit features an excellent set of sustainable features including LED lighting, recycled insulation, and bamboo flooring, plus it can function completely off-grid with an optional solar panel package.

Marmol Radziner and Associantes have made a name for themselves with their elegant prefabs that are designed for LEED certification. Their steel-frame units offer a variety of green options including natural cooling systems, high performance insulating glass, and radiant floors. Interiors arrive polished with low VOC-paints, non off-gassing casework and cabinets, and energy-efficient appliances.

The unit was recently showcased in a Los Angeles event that explored its possibilities as a guest house, yoga studio, and home office. Want to make your new guest bedroom a Rincon 5? The basic unit costs $223,000 to be built, delivered and installed, plus the price of whichever upgrades you think your guests will appreciate most.

$223,000 and up? I think I can buy my neighbor’s house for that.
