Designed by Tom Raffield, co-founder of Sixixis, these beautiful Ash Pendant lamps are formed from 80 meters worth of locally-sourced FSC-certified English ash. Their delicate interwoven shades are steam-bent, and each is illuminated by a giant low-energy bulb. The design was recently featured in [re]design’s Lighten Up exhibition.

To avoid the energy-intensive process of kiln drying, Tom Raffield’s design uses fast-growing unseasoned timber, which is cut to size and passed through a sanding machine. All wood is sourced from local businesses in order to support local infrastructure while reducing the impact of transportation.
Tom explains to [re]design that “Energy efficiency is paramount. Making something eco-friendly does not have to be a constraint on what is possible. I believe sustainable design is based on beauty and integrity”.
