Eco fashion designer John Patrick Organic has long been known for his soft, breezy looks, and bright outlook on sustainable style, with previous collections featuring a lot of whites, baby blues and beiges. But now a darker side to John Patrick has emerged, with his latest fall collection for 2009. Inhabitat attended his fashion week ‘Bake Sale’ this past week to check out his fall collection, and we were both surprised and intrigued by the Lynchian Film Noir looks that have crept into JPO’s aesthetic for Fall 2009.
Is it just me, or is this very Twin-Peaks-esque?
Womens’ looks ranged from being fluidly soft to structured — though all feminine in their own right. A mauve jumpsuit ensemble evoked a sexy 70’s secretary look, with a touch of girlishness from a white-bow headband. A tightly-belted women’s jacket and men’s trench coat both evoked 40’s film noir, while a mini-skirt and vest ensemble looked a bit 80’s new wave.
Sexy 70’s Secretary Look?Though John Patrick’s inspiration for this collection seems to skirt many decades of the past century, there is a common thread of classic shapes, muted colors, and noirish surrealism that brings this collection together and makes it cohesive. Our favorite look of the bunch was a cape paired with a fluted skirt and white hat — the cape’s hint of red lining and the outfit’s unusual shape make the look effortlessly chic with an exquisitely curved hat atop the model’s head.
A touch of glamourThe casual looks were no less appealing, with short, flirty skirts featuring subtle textures in shades of gray. A black lace dress with a dropped waist and pockets seems like the perfect party dress for the fall, while a mottled gray skirt paired with a t-shirt and vest at the exhibition is an easily versatile piece for a number of occasions.

This classic trench coat looked very dashing
Mens’ looks for the fall are very wearable. We can’t help but think of David Lynch when it came to a look with a beige trench coat paired with this green velvet curtain backdrop on the set. The collection also featured a few casual looks, where we thought the patchwork-plaid shirt was a stand-out piece, one that we imagine could go with just about any pair of organic cotton jeans.

Love this collection. He just gets better each season. I picked up a great leather jacket by him this season at Tula in Chicago–the only spot I’ve been able to locate it in person. Can’t wait to shop the Fall stuff!
