From the solar-powered vehicle that crossed Canada, to a wave-powered boat that took on the Pacific, we’ve seen many impressive feats accomplished by green vehicles. But now the crew at PlanetSolar is attempting to cross a distance far greater with a sleek solar-powered boat that will travel around the world!

The PlanetSolar is a multi-hull vessel that is covered in 180 square meters of photovoltaic cells. The expedition is being sponsored by Autodesk, and the team is led by Raphaël Domjan and Gérard d’Aboville, who will be traveling around the world at an average speed of 10 knots. Their goal is quite simple: to raise awareness of the powerful renewable energy technologies that make this incredible journey possible. The tour will begin in 2010 and last around 120 days. The funkiest bit? You’ll be able to follow their journey via ham radio.
