Yay for the entrants living car-free and making sustainable transportation choices! Spreading the word about how these decisions effect our planet has been a longtime focus for me and my partner.

But I have only relatively recently come to understand the environmental impact of our food choices can be even greater. I have struggled with committing to a vegan diet since I became vegetarian as a teenager. Why do butter and cheese have to taste so darn good?!?

I may not be able to live vegan, but I pledge to buy local as much as possible to reduce food transportation miles, and certainly not support factory farms that feed their livestock corn that makes even more of the GHG methane than if they were grass fed. PU!

Where I currently live, it’s not feasible or practical to switch from using a car to a bicycle, nor is there any viable public transportation. However, I will be moving this summer to Atlanta to attend a design school, and I plan to take full advantage of the opportunities there. I pledge to use my bicycle, public transportation, or even my own two feet as much as possible, and resort to carpooling when I can’t. I am specifically hunting for an affordable place to live that will allow me to do just that!

As I already feel like I do more than the average for the Earth, I feel like going to a next step:

Everyday people are trying to be the less bad, or as neutral as possible for the Earth. I’ll try to have a POSITIVE influence on the Earth. I am a Scientist and I would like to create plastic that when are throw away they can make plants/trees/flowers growing better.

It seems pretty impossible, but turning things from impossible to feasible is something I like very much.

As an architect will try and convince my clients to go green while selecting materials and use recyled material and as a human being i will not use plastic bags for years and so on and will look at it that my family will follow the same and try for my friends also

I always bring my reusable bags to the grocery store, but when I get produce I always seem to use a new plastic bag. I try to reuse them, but I never seem to have them. This year I\’ll be getting some more clothe bags (maybe I\’ll make them myself from scrap fabric?) and pledge to not use plastic produce bags anymore!

My husband and I are already living a car-free life in Boston, MA. I ride my bike everyday and my husband takes mass transit. There is a wrinkle in the plan…a baby due in September. Our challenge is to maintain our car-free lifestyle, so we’re looking for a bakfiet (Dutch cargo bike), preferably used, to be our version of a mini-van. I’ve got to transport a kid and get groceries somehow!
