New York’s High Line Sky Park to Open in June

New York City will soon be receiving a brand new stretch of green space as the once-abandoned High Line railway is renovated to become a lush public park. Designed to capture the majesty of both nature and NYC’s industrial ruins, the first section of the elevated garden promenade is set open this June, and an online video series on the Sundance Channel gives an excellent first look at the project. Featuring ten short narratives, the series shows the diversity of support that the project has garnered over the years — and how far the High Line has come, from being a neglected “industrial relic” to a much-anticipated “park in the sky.”
The Sundance Channel’s 10-episode short video series entitled “High Line Stories” will feature interviews with 10 of the people involved in the making of the High Line. The cast includes everyone from government officials like Adrian Benepe and Amanda Burden to celebrities like Ethan Hawke. We’ve included a clip of Adam Gopnik’s part of the series. See the rest on the Sundance Channel, starting May 26 at 7pm.
Section 1 of the High Line is located in the Meatpacking District and is due to open in mid-June — around the anniversary of the Friends of the High Line, a non-profit organization that has worked relentlessly to ensure the vitality of the space. We’re thrilled for the High Line’s eminent opening and are glad that such an exemplary park continues to elicit attention from the public!
