Last week the Time Trials Xtreme Grand Prix (TTXGP), the world’s first ever zero carbon, clean emission, motorcycle Grand Prix was held on the Isle of Man; and the race proved to be every bit as exciting as its fossil fuel equivalent. Team Agni Pro-Class driver Rob Barber made history by winning this inaugural electric motorbike competition with an all-electric Suzuki GSX-R 600.

Twenty-three teams from six different countries, including both university and commercial ventures, entered the competition. The TTXGP, is the brainchild of Azhar Hussain, and it was designed to showcase fully electric motorbikes in a racing environment. In this particular case, over 37.73 miles across the beautiful Isle of Man.

The winning Team Agni’s bike is a converted 2007 Suzuki GSX-R 600. It comes equipped with two Agni 96 motors and a Kokam lithium polymer battery. The lap was made in 25 minutes and 53.5 seconds, more than 3 minutes faster than second place winner XXL Racing, and four minutes faster than Brammo.

The 2010 version of the TTXGP will feature electric cars, and Telstra wants to get in the game. Seems to us that electric racing is now in vogue. Perhaps electric NASCAR will be next?
