It cannot. No airplane can be constructed large enough to carry sufficient solar cells to do MEANINGFUL work; that is...they cannot carry many passengers or cargo. Airplanes such as the Solar Impulse are merely novelties.However, true, viable solar flight is coming.How? On board giant, rigid shelled airships. Only airships have the room needed for immense solar cell arrays which are needed to supply power for real workhorse aircraft. However, these cannot be "blimps", or "dirigibles"; but must be constructed in a new, much stronger manner than ever before. WE ARE TOTALLY COMMITTED TO DOING THIS, and have been working towards this for many years.
