VIDEO: Inhabitat Interviews San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom!

Inhabitat readers might remember that we interviewed San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom back in October over a live webcast that was open to any of our readers who wanted to attend. The finale of our Green Talks series of live chats with green thought-leaders, this interview touched on subjects such as mandatory composting, electric vehicle infrastructure and political leadership in CA. Our interview with Mayor Newsom was provocative and inspiring, and was a can’t-miss bit of Inhabitat journalism, if we do say so ourselves. Happily, for those of you who missed this amazing interview – we finally have the videos together of the interview in its entirety. Every City should be so lucky as to have a Mayor as Smart as Gavin Newsom. San Francisco could be the first self sustaining City in the US, how cool is that? THE PEOPLE OF SAN FRANCISCO should keep this fine Politician as long as they can….

Great job Jill. It really was awesome to see Mayor Newsom a chance to go off a bit about green initiatives. I wanted to be a part of it while it was going on but was traveling. Maybe I’ll take over where he leaves off one of these days!

I am a californian in my heart! but…… I was born in Mendoza, Argentina….a beautiful wine country!, my father was an architect and I also study architecture.. so I’m passioned about architestural designs and building materials……in Mendoza, in the old time, houses were build of “adobe”(which eventually was not good in an earthquake country!)…but what was very interesting, were the roofs:they were made of beams of “alamo’ (which is a tree that grows very fast) and “caña” ,which is a tipe of “bambu”…it will be assemble by hand (as much as we do here with shingles) weave with wire( all “in situ”) and put in top of the beams, after it will be cover with news papers and in top of this will come a layer of a” liason” of mud and grass and in top, a very light layer of cement AND THAS WAS IT!….the benefit of this is:1 caña can grow in a very small space, needs only water and it reproduce fast,2 it is a FINISH product, does not need any makeup ,3 what is the best of it,is that it’s natural round chamber is an excellent insulation, both weather and sound prove……if we use this in California and even further! in all western states,we will save allot of trees! JUST IMAGINE!!! LETS GO SouthAMERICAN!!!
