Earlier this week, Regen wowed us with their sleek, modular iPhone charger. Now the electronics company is back again with another impressive Apple-related product: the Reverb, an eye-catching 3-foot tall iPod dock that blasts out the equivalent of 60 watts of sound from a conventional speaker. And best of all, it’s solar-powered.
The hot hand-held gadget of choice may not be the iPhone for much longer – if this wearable and solar powered wrist phone comes to market, everyone on the streets may soon be sporting it. Inspired by photosynthesis, the Leaf is a wearable phone concept created by Seungkyn Woo and Junyi Heo. The flexible device incorporates solar cells into the front and is capable of rolling up into the form of a wristwatch so that users can wear it and keep it charged while they’re on the move.
There are mobile offices, mobile hedges, mobile homes and mobile phones, and just when you thought you couldn’t get more mobile, now there are super sleek mobile lounges! Designed by Italy-based Architecture and Vision, the MercuryHouseOne is a portable pod-like lounge that will debut at the Venice Biennale this September. Powered by solar panels and decked out with the latest lighting, video, and sound technologies, the curvaceous capsule is meant to provide a unique experience whether placed in nature in the heart of a bustling city.
Perhaps propelled by the recent dawn of solar powered airplanes, this stunning solar powered blimp is poised to take flight by harnessing sunlight for fuel. Dubbed Nephelios, the solar-powered helium blimp was designed and built by high school engineering students in France. The history making blimp will begin test flights in the next 2 weeks, and by summer’s end the designers hope to fly Nephelios across the English Channel, “just to show that it’s possible.” Nephelios will be the first manned solar airship in existence, and its inaugural flight will prove that CO2-free air travel is now a reality.

S116: Brand New Solar-Powered Chinese Cell Phone
Hi-Tech Wealth, Inc., a telecommunications supplier in China has unveiled the world’s first commercial solar-powered cellular phone. The S116 retails in China around $510 and is packed with features including a microSD memory card slot, MP3 player and a 1.3 megapixel camera. The phone’s battery lasts 2.5 times longer than a traditional battery and can be recharged outdoors, indoors, even by candle light! Just one hour of direct sunlight will provide enough juice to power 40 minutes of talk-time.
SOLAR-POWERED SUN BRICK
Spice up your patio or walkway this fall with Sun Bricks, the solar-powered ground lighting system that will guide people to your front door with their inviting glow. These flush-to-ground patio pavers are composed of LEDs powered entirely by the sun – meaning no burn-outs, bulb replacement or extra charges to those ever-increasing energy bills. No external wires makes installation a snap – just swap out existing pavers with Sun Bricks. One day of charge provides each Sun Brick with eight hours of amber-colored illumination, just long enough to get all of your visitors in and out of the house. Sun Bricks are an inspirational idea for the holiday seasons, what with all the expected (and unexpected) guests.
